Comparing Energy Consumption - To VFD or Not to VFD If the goal of your VFD application is to reduce energy consumption, you have to do a careful comparison between VFD and constant speed operation. Variable Frequency Control - Other Advantages VFD's can reduce energy consumption by allowing a pump to run at the duty point required by the system and it can change that duty point in real time.
