Salat lima waktu adalah salat fardhu (salat wajib) yang dilaksanakan lima kali sehari. Hukum salat ini adalah Fardhu 'Ain, yakni wajib dilaksanakan oleh setiap Muslim yang telah menginjak usia dewasa (pubertas), kecuali berhalangan karena sebab tertentu.

Menurut Imam Syi'ah, Salat Isya boleh dilakukan setelah mengerjakan Salat Magrib. Khusus pada hari Jumat, laki-laki muslim wajib melaksanakan salat Jumat di masjid secara berjamaah (bersama-sama) sebagai pengganti Salat Zhuhur.

Salat Jumat tidak wajib dilakukan oleh perempuan, atau bagi mereka yang sedang dalam perjalanan (musafir).
